You all… HOLY SHIT! It’s been a long time since we’ve been this excited to see a movie. In the sense of superhero movies, there was a different feeling. This time you truly didn’t know who would win, who would be involved, and who would survive. Don’t worry… we won’t spoil it for you.
One of the most complicated parts of the movie was trying to figure out how all of the characters would fit together to make one cohesive and linear story. This becomes even more complicated when you take into account the development of characters, some of which have been in development for 10 years. The additional layer that can get messy is satisfying the crazy ass Marvel fans who would never let the internet hear the end of it if it was messed up.
The good news for us is that it wasn’t. The story was great! Characters were mixed and matched together in an entertaining, yet logical way. Space people were with space people, Earth people were with Earth people and there was some back and forth as well. The most impressive aspect of the story was the development of Thanos. The writers did an amazing job of giving us background to a character that had been only seen in glimpses for so many years. We had some hints at who he was from Gamora and Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, but that was about it. There was a background to Thanos and an emotional aspect that was unexpected. At some points you start to wonder if you’re actually against him. In a genre that haters claim there is a lack of story, this was refreshing.
Alright, now the good, but difficult part. The acting…. It’s great because it’s what makes these movies so successful. It sucks for this review because there are a million characters. We’ll start with the man who started it all, Robert Downey Jr. RDJ continues to carry the weight of the MCU on his back. His balance of rich supreme invincibility and humanity is amazing to watch. Benedict Cumberbatch’s second portrayal of Dr. Strange was amazing as well. Watching the two interact, now that was beauty. Then we have the funnier side of things with the Guardians and Thor. Chris Pratt (Starlord) is fucking hysterical. Despite some of the douche bags thinking that the jokes are overdone, Marvel said fuck you and stuck with the personality that makes Pratt’s character so loveable. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) seems to walk the tight rope of being super serious and hilariously witty. Interactions with the Guardians and specifically Rocket were hilarious. We’ll close this section with this, Tom Holland will end up being the best Spider-man by far. His range is amazing and he’s just getting started.
Visually… I mean, hot damn! It’s no surprise when your budget is nearly half a billion dollars, but the visuals were amazing. Switching the setting of the movie between space and Earth is no small feat. It becomes an even greater challenge when you’re exploring newly created planets. The landscapes and different environmental characteristics of each planet was fantastic, even though we only saw them briefly. The characters were amazingly done as well, specifically the new Black Order, Thanos’ death squad. The characters had very unique and interesting looks to them.
It’s hard to tell if there’s been a movie that has had as much hype around it as Avengers: Infinity War. Star Wars: The Force Awakens may be close, but nothing else can even compare. Sing your praises that the movie not only lived up to expectations, but far exceeded them.
Avengers: Infinity War is an emotional roller coaster of high octane action leaving you mentally and emotionally exhausted at its conclusion. You’ll be foaming at the mouth and quickly Googling, “When’s the next one?” This is a MUST watch!
